Company Profile
Helping Hands first opened its doors for service in the early 1990's. In March of 2004 it was purchased by John and JoAnn Armstrong and Dan O'Brien from Patti and Bob Stack, who had earned a great reputation for dedicated service in the nearly four years that they owned and operated the company. In November of 2007 Dan O'Brien sold his 50% share of the business to Paul and Karen Armstrong, RN.
The present owners are John and JoAnn Armstrong, Paul and Karen Armstrong, RN, and Deborah Hill, operating under the legal name of Yavapai Care Services, LLC. John, who is currently the Managing Member, came to the business with over 25 years of education and experience in the practice of chiropractic and over 12 years of education and experience in providing group home, respite, independent living, and other habilitation services to developmentally disabled individuals. His wife, JoAnn, shares John's background experience in working with DD individuals, and also enjoyed over 5 years experience in working with Alzheimer's patients.
Education and experience valuable to the company doesn't end there, however. Karen Armstrong, RN, had nearly 15 years experience working in hospitals in both the Cottonwood and Prescott areas, primarily as an ICU charge nurse, before assuming her position as General Member. She currently oversees the company's quality assurance program. Paul Armstrong and Deborah Hill, both General Members of the LLC, also contribute extensive knowledge and experience to the company in different aspects of caregiving and business operations.
When they first took over Helping Hands in March of 2004, it was John, JoAnn, and Dan's shared intent and desire to implement a number of different principles in business operations than employed by most other service businesses. First and foremost among these was and is to always place clients' best interests before all others. Second among these, although inseparably intertwined with the first, was and is to give the caregiver staff who "work in the trenches" providing direct care, hands-on services to clients, the best pay rates and working conditions possible, in recognition and honor of the truly altruistic and valuable nature of their demanding work. These principles in business operations did not change with the subsequent changes in ownership, and remain as strongly in effect today as in March of 2004.
In the relatively short time since the partnership first took over the business and implemented their different philosophy, it has experienced rather remarkable growth. Starting out with a staff of one part-time office manger and about 35 caregivers serving just the Prescott area, Helping Hands now has offices in both Prescott and Cottonwood with an administrative staff numbering 20 individuals, and with over 180 caregivers serving clients throughout Yavapai County.
However, while remarkable, growth has never been and never will be an adopted measure of success in Helping Hands. Rather, it is the degree of satisfaction with provided services that clients enjoy and express, coupled with the extent of satisfaction with working conditions that staff express and enjoy, which serve as the measures of success for the business. Growth but reflects these measures, as satisfied staff and clients together promote what is truly good and valuable.
